Research papers are one of my most common writing assignments students encounter and a crucial one at that. You’re not alone -- that’s the life of a quintessential college student. With looming deadlines and complicated essays, students are under immense pressure and left feeling stressed. You may find that the information you need isn’t readily accessible online, so you might need to visit your local library or conduct more in-depth searches online. Persuasive essays are used to make an argument or persuade the reader to feel a certain way or believe something specific. Discursive writing is the process of describing different sides of an argument in an attempt to find the correct one. Punctuality and excellence are the two core principles of EssayTigers. We always make sure to deliver your order on time and provide you with the highest quality work. So how to start a discursive essay introduction the right way? A good idea is to use a hook as the first sentence of the introduction. Then you need to provide a brief overview of the problem, as well as the sides of the argument you want to discuss further. From the description and the structure of a discursive essay, it may seem like it’s exactly the same as an argumentative essay. However, while those two types of essays to share a lot of features, they are also very different in nature. We not only meet your deadlines, but also offer you outstanding speed of writing. Academic essays explore complex ideas and information, but this doesn’t mean your writing has to be complex, too. Opt for simple, straightforward language whenever possible. After you gather your research, think about how you want to organize it. When you write your essay, you will likely need to refer back to this information and include it at the end of your paper. In general, the information on wiki sites isn’t trustworthy because anyone can change that information at any time. There are instances where an essay topic is provided, and all you need is to research and write within the given area. However, there are scenarios where you will be required to pick a topic that’s relevant to your field of study. buy essays online to improve their chances of submitting a premium quality paper. No 1 Essay Writing Service

No 1 Essay Writing Service Let’s now discuss the Guidelines on Writing Short Essays. A short essay should be a minimum of half-page & maximum of 1 page if we work single-spaced. It can go up to max 2 pages if we work double-spaced. If you’re looking for credible sources to use within your essay, check out Google Scholar. Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence, which expresses the main idea of the paragraph. Short essays should consist of a maximum of 400 words. You can go up to 500 but, if only it’s the need for the topic. A short length essay means essay which is written in short. The guidelines for writing short length essays are almost similar to that of writing a normal long essay. Take out all conjunctions (aren’t, don’t, couldn’t, etc.). Most teachers would rather have a well-written essay that doesn’t quite meet the length requirement than a paper that meets the requirement, but is 80 percent fluff. Examples of scholarly sources include academic journals, peer-reviewed articles, textbooks, books by accredited authors, and NPR articles. Examples of unacceptable scholarly sources are magazine articles, open forum submissions, encyclopedia entries, and unverified online sources. This will make your paper longer and is more appropriate for academic writing. Your conclusion should always begin by restating your thesis statement. This is your chance to tie all of your main points together and go out with a bang. Time4Writing’s eight-week online writing courses are highly effective in helping students apply the writing process and build writing confidence. Learn more about Time4Writing’s elementary, middle school paragraph and high school online writing courses. Completeness means a paragraph is well-developed. If all sentences clearly and sufficiently support the main idea, then your paragraph is complete. If there are not enough sentences or enough information to prove your thesis, then the paragraph is incomplete. Each paragraph should contain quotes or contextual information to defend your topic sentence and thesis statement. The most important step in writing an essay or research paper is to fully comprehend the essay question. An essay can be wonderfully articulated and thought out, but will still result in a poor grade if it doesn’t adequately answer the prompt provided. We guarantee that all information is treated in the strictest confidence and all our written products are authentic. We do not share personal information about our customers with other parties and we do not reuse any papers sold to you. If you have an issue deciding the topic of your essay, then just prepare an outline of all the topics which you have, and it will help you to find out the best topic. If you already have a topic, then you need to prepare an outline for its content. Usually three supporting sentences, in addition to a topic sentence and concluding sentence, are needed for a paragraph to be complete. The concluding sentence or last sentence of the paragraph should summarize your main idea by reinforcing your topic sentence. You may order any type of non-plagiarized sample paper from us â€" essays, reports, reviews, term papers, research papers, theses, dissertations and more. The weakest arguments should be discussed and presented in the closing paragraphs of the essay body. Time4Writing provides online writing classes for elementary, middle school, and high school students and pairs each student with a certified teacher for one-on-one writing instruction. A good conclusion will address the main arguments of each body paragraph in a succinct way and thoroughly prove your thesis statement. They know when you don’t fully understand the essay topic and when you’re rambling to make it longer. Instead, make sure that every sentence adds substance to your work.

Essay In English

Essay In English Descriptive essays are used to describe something, such as a location, person, or piece of art. Narrative essays tell a story about something that happened in the author’s life. You are guaranteed top-quality writing, but that’s not all. These include VIP customer service, works cited pages, plagiarism reports, and discounts. The narrative is based on your own life and experience, which means there are unlikely any relevant materials to support your writing. Unlike many other types of essays, the format of a narrative essay encourages the use of the “I” pronoun. That way, you will make the story more personal and relatable for your audience. A good narrative essay example will show you what your essay should look like, what kind of tone it should have, and how to make your narrative essay more interesting to your audience. Here is an example of a narrative essay created by our writing team for you. Brainstorming means producing ideas related to a theme. There is no set model for an essay, but the English for Uni website presents one popular way to do it. The following example is based around a 1000 word discussion essay. GMAT Tip of the Week How to Avoid GMAT (and Pokemon Go) Traps

In seemingly the most important development in world history since humans learned to create fire, Pokemon Go has arrived and is taking the world by storm. Rivaling Twitter and Facebook for mobile phone attention and battling the omnipresent selfie as a means of death-by-mobile-phone, Pokemon Go is everywhere you want to be†¦and often in places you don’t. And that is why Pokemon Go is responsible for an ever-important GMAT lesson. Perhaps most newsworthy about Pokemon Go these days is the dangerous and improper places that it has led its avid users. On the improper side,   such solemn and dignified places as the national Holocaust Museum and Arlington National Cemetery have had to actively prohibit gamers from descending upon mourners/commemorators while playing the game. And as for danger, there have been several instances of thieves luring gamers into traps and therefore robbing them of valuable (if you’re playing the game, you definitely have a smartphone) items. And the GMAT can and will do the same thing. How? If you’re reading this on our GMAT blog, you’ve undoubtedly already learned that, on Data Sufficiency problems, you cannot assume that a variable is positive, or that it is an integer. But think about what makes Pokemon Go users so vulnerable to being lured into a robbery or to losing track of basic human decency. They’re so invested in the game that they lose track of the situations they’re being lured into. Similarly, the most dangerous GMAT traps are those for which you should absolutely know better, but the testmaker has gotten your mind so invested in another â€Å"game† that you lose track of something basic. Consider the example: If y is an odd integer and the product of x and y equals 222, what is the value of x?   (1) x is a prime number (2) y is a 3 digit number Statement 1 is clearly sufficient. Since y is odd, and an integer, and the product of integers x and y is an even integer, that means that x must be even. And since x also has to be prime (which is how you know it’s an integer, too), the only even prime is 2, making x = 2. From there your mind is fixated on the game. You can quickly see that in that case y = 111 and x = 2. Which you then have to forget about as you attack Statement 2. But here’s the reason that less than 25% of users in the Veritas Prep Question Bank get this right, while nearly half incorrectly choose D. Statement 1 has gotten your mind fixated on the even/odd/prime game, meaning that you may only be thinking about integers (and positive integers at that) at this point. That y is a 3-digit number DOES NOT mean that it has to be 111. It could be -111 (making x = -2) or 333 (making x = 2/3). So only Statement 1 alone is sufficient, but the larger lesson is more important. Just like Pokemon Go has the potential to pollute your mind and have you see the real world through its â€Å"enhanced reality† lens, so does a statement that satisfies your intellect (â€Å"Ah, 2 is the only even prime number!†) give you just enough tunnel vision that you make poor decisions and fall for traps. The secret here is that almost no one scoring above a 500 carries over all of Statement 1 (â€Å"Oh, well I already know that x = 2!†) a total rookie mistake. It’s that Statement 1 got you fixated on definitions of types of integers (prime, even, odd) and therefore got your mind looking through the â€Å"enhanced reality† of integers-only. The lesson? Much like Pokemon Go, the GMAT has tools to get you so invested in a particular facet of a game that you lose your universal awareness of your surroundings. Know that going in that you have to consciously step back from that enhanced reality you’ve gained after Statement 1 and look at the whole picture. So take a lesson from Pokemon Go and know when to stop and step back. Getting ready to take the GMAT? We have free online GMAT seminars running all the time. Psychology of Human Behavior - 800 Words

Psychology of Human Behavior ROUGH DRAFT Everybody responds and behaves differently to events based on their own personalities. Some people are morning people, god knows why, but they are. Whereas other people like to stay up later because they get more done at night. That behavior is one that is programed to you from birth. If you don’t like mornings, you cannot make yourself like mornings, it’s not going to happen. But other behaviors are learned, based on our upbringing and environment. Our personalities and attitudes and behaviors are built from everything around us along with the things set in us from the day we’re born. But what is it really that drives us, that motivates us? Since the beginning of time, people have always been†¦show more content†¦As we grow up and develop in whatever world we live in, we soak in the attitudes of our environment and start to reflect them in our own personal attitudes. We may often act like we agree with what we believe to be our social expectations, because we don’t want to disappoint people who expect us to meet particular requirements. This can cause an imbalance which can make our behavior become illogical because a lot of the times we play the role we feel were cast, even if it conflicts with our personal beliefs. Our behaviors of course are controlled greatly by our emotions. Many parts of emotion are unconscious to us. But even simpler emotional feelings seem to be much more complicated than feelings like hunger and thirst. Emotions are feelings that are personal and subjective, no two people will feel exactly the same was about something. Yes, many people can feel sad about a death or excited about a wedding, and yes those feelings they share are similar, but they are not exactly identical. Little bits of the complex emotions are different between people because of experiences, relationships, attitudes, or beliefs. Contribution Of An Ethnographic Research On Friendship

Throughout this essay I will be evaluating the contribution of an ethnographic approach to research on friendship. I will be looking at, and including evidence to support both sides of the argument as to whether or not this research method is in fact useful when it comes to gaining knowledge about friendship. As well as evaluating this method, I will compare it against others to reflect on the strengths, weaknesses and the typical data collected. I will look at some of the questions about friendship that have been addressed, and then whether this is the best method or if there are others that could have been more suitable. Ethnography is a qualitative method of research in which the researcher takes part in the activities of a group such that they are able to complete their observations over a period of time in a natural, real-life environment. When it comes to investigating friendship, one question that has been raised is ‘what is the role of friendship in the life of a 13 year old?’’. Several sources of data include ethnographic notes taken whilst spending time with a group of friends during school lunch breaks and diary/blog entries etc. Firstly, in this case the researcher would need to carefully consider the strengths and weaknesses of each type of data, for example, when looking at a blog the information/data available is likely to be information that the author wants to share with a wider audience whereas a diary entry is more private. In this case, both documentsShow MoreRelatedFriendships1385 Words   |  6 PagesBigelow and La Gaipa (1975) observed children’s friendships by asking a number of children to write an essay about their best friend using the approach called â€Å"content analysis†. The Upsides by The Wonder Years free essay sample

You probably haven’t heard of The Wonder Years, and until a few weeks ago, neither had I. The Wonder Years are a six piece pop punk band out of Philadelphia, and while they’ve yet to actually hit the mainstream, I was blown away by their second record, The Upsides. Frontman Dan â€Å"Soupy† Campbell takes listeners on a fast paced, up beat day in his life, and he holds nothing back. By the time the twelve track, forty minute record is over, you’ll find yourself itching to give it another spin. The album opener, My Last Semester, opens with Soupy reciting the band’s current mantra – â€Å"I’m not sad anymore†. The punk-infused lyrics tell the story of making a largely unpopular change in one’s life – dropping out of school and running away from the juvenile melodrama and mainstream lifestyle. With humorously specific lines addressing everything from â€Å"mall rat goth [kids]† to â€Å"fake tan girls†, Soupy picks apart every school clique before declaring in a high energy chorus that he simply doesn’t fit in with anyone but his closest friends. The second track, Logan Circle, is simply a stand out track and an excellent example of The Wonder Year’s versatility. The next step on Soupy’s search for happiness depicts an epiphany that allowed him to escape the clutches of crippling depression, and looking back on various eccentric interests and anecdotes that kept him going during the hard times. â€Å"We just cant blame the seasons/The Blue Man Group wont cure depression†, the lyrics manage to be personal and endearing and the song’s pop influence is absolutely infectious.The optimistic chorus notably includes a callback to My Last Semester, another declaration that â€Å"I’m not even sad anymore†. The next song, Everything I Own Fits in this Backpack fits perfectly as a follow up to Logan Circle. Now that Soupy has decided that he won’t let depression take him hostage, the next logical step is to start making some life changes. The heavy hitting guitar riffs keep the song chugging along as Soupy compares and contrasts his new home and his previous home, with a catchy chorus that once again calls back My Last Semester, decidedly not fitting in anywhere. Soupy bemuses that touring with The Wonder Years is just another form of running away, but that it’s all he has. Dynamite Shovel is a fast hitting, angry one minute punk song that is reminiscent of the band’s debut record. The signature humor shines through once more, and the lyrics name drop the Westboro Baptist Church and subsequently curses them out. There’s not much to say about the track, but it perfectly expresses the standard teenage mindset- angry at the world, with any acceptable target finding its way to get under the skin. In the fifth song on the record, New Years with Carl Weathers, The Wonder Years take the listener on the road with them, and as it turns out, touring life isn’t nearly as glamorous as you would think. Vans breaking down, sexting, Nyquil and pizza are all in a day’s work for punk rockers, and the down to earth lyrics continue Soupy’s signature style of sharing personal stories and calling out friends by name. The hard hitting drums and catchy guitar riffs once again take center stage, dropping out occasionally at the perfect moments. The optimistic chorus expresses a fervor of excitement shared by the bandmates, contrasting with their desire to return home. It’s Never Sunny in Philadelphia follows and the guitar and drums take a more standard punk rock approach, and Campbell details his struggle with depression in the album’s darkest song. â€Å"Most days are bad days/ We can’t just wait for someone to pull me off of the concrete† croons the morbidly upbeat chorus. The song is one of the record’s strongest, despite depicting the band’s frontman at his personal weakest. â€Å"I can’t be left alone now/ For even a second† Soupy cries, drawing the reader into his personal struggles. The song closes strongly, with the two alternating refrains competing with each other for dominance. The Wonder Years’ tales of tour continue with Hostels Brothels, a globe trotting punk rock song that name checks European locations from Leeds, Glasgow, and â€Å"Grey† Britain. The frontman shares an inspiring conversation with his father, and despite initial misgivings, he eventually concedes â€Å"Things got a bit lighter/I guess my dad was right†. The guitar and drums once again keep the song going, taking advantage of the song’s three minute length to stick to the pop punk playbook. The gang vocals chorus works much to the band’s advantage, with ringing guitars and timely drum fills. Next up is Melrose Diner, the closest thing to a hit single. The catchy anti-love song takes shots at former romantic interests, and the humorous music video fits the band’s image perfectly—Soupy is an underdog, an everyman, a relatable cynic. The memorable lead riff keeps the song on the listener’s mind, and the drums hit harder than most of the album’s tracks. The chorus shines as one of the album’s simplest, yet most radio friendly; â€Å"I guess I’m just down, I guess I’ll be honest/I could use you around, I can’t stand the dork that you’re hanging with now†. Continuing the same train of thought that delivered Melrose Diner, the next track is an anti-party song aptly titled This Party Sucks. Soupy holds nothing back in his lyrical assault on the Jersey Shore environment and the so called â€Å"GTL† lifestyle. The guitars range from heavy verse riffs to melodic solos and the drums hit just as heavy. â€Å"Say, say you’ll stay in with me tonight† asks the chorus, and Soupy makes it clear that a night in with the television is what he considers his scene. The song is more than complaining, with a humorous verse dedicated to Rupert Holmes and the Pina Colada jingle. Hey Thanks is a surprisingly different track. The majority of the track is simply Campbell’s vocals accompanied by a catchy ukulele rhythm, and the heartfelt ballad is not without some of The Wonder Years’ classic self depreciation. Guest vocals from singer Rachel Minton and the trombone styling of Matt Belanger supply additional depth to the song, which closes with steady drums and electric guitar. Washington Square Park, the penultimate track, is another song that was deemed worthy of being a single. â€Å"I’m looking for the upsides to these panic attack nights,† Soupy sings as casually references the record’s title. Matt Brasch and Casey Caveliere’s dual guitars provide the main attraction on this song, while Soupy’s lyrics draw thematically from the other songs on the album, with an angrily optimistic chorus. In the song’s closing minute, the band reinforces their message – sometimes growing up means you have to grin and bear it. The final song, All My Friends are in Bar Bands is a look back on the band’s childhood years, calling to mind The Offspring’s â€Å"The Kids are Alright†. Rhythmic drums courtesy of Michael Kennedy keep the song steady, and the angry vocals from Washington Square Park make a triumphant return. Fans of Fall Out Boy’s â€Å"What a Catch, Donnie† will be pleasantly surprised when a flurry of guest vocalists make appearances in the closing minutes to once again remind the listener of the band’s mantra – â€Å"I’m not sad anymore, I’m just tired of this place/If this year would just end, I think we’d all be okay†. The Upsides wasn’t intended to be a concept album, but it manages to be one all the same. The album is a whirlwind of emotional ups and downs, and the album is simply down to earth and relatable. Antigone by Sophocles - Plot Summary

Antigone by Sophocles - Plot Summary Antigone is a Greek Tragedy written by Sophocles. It was written in 441 B.C. Setting of the Play: Ancient Greece Antigones Twisted Family Tree A brave and proud young woman named Antigone is the product of a really messed up family. Her father, Oedipus, was the King of Thebes. He unknowingly murdered his father and married his own mother, Queen Jocasta. With his wife/mother, Oedipus had two daughter/sisters and two brother/sons. When Jocasta found out the truth of their incestuous relationship, she killed herself. Oedipus was pretty upset too. He plucked out his eyeballs. Then, he spent his remaining years wandering through Greece, being led by his loyal daughter Antigone. After Oedipus died, his two sons (Eteocles and Polynices) battled for control of the kingdom. Eteocles fought to defend Thebes. Polynices and his men attacked the city. Both brothers died. Creon ( Antigones uncle) became the official ruler of Thebes. (Theres a lot of upward mobility in this city-state. Thats what happens when your bosses kill each other.) Divine Laws v. Man-made Laws Creon buried Eteocless body with honor. But because the other brother was perceived as a traitor, Polynicess body was left to rot, a tasty snack for vultures and vermin. However, leaving human remains unburied and exposed to the elements was an affront to the Greek Gods. So, at the plays beginning, Antigone decides to defy Creons laws. She gives her brother a proper funeral. Her sister Ismene warns that Creon will punish any who defy the law of the city. Antigone believes that the law of the gods supersedes a kings decree. Creon doesnt see things that way. He is very angry and sentences Antigone to death. Ismene asks to be executed along with her sister. But Antigone doesnt want her by her side. She insists that she alone buried the brother, so she alone will receive punishment (and possible reward from the gods). Creon Needs To Loosen Up As if things werent complicated enough, Antigone has a boyfriend: Haemon, the son of Creon. He tries to convince his father that mercy and patience are called for. But the more they debate, the more Creons anger grows. Haemon leaves, threatening to do something rash. At this point, the people of Thebes, represented by the Chorus, are uncertain as to who is right or wrong. It seems Creon is starting to feel a little bit worried because instead of executing Antigone, he orders her to be sealed inside a cave. (That way, if she dies, her death will be in the hands of the gods). But after she is sent to her doom, a blind old wise man enters. He is Tiresias, a seer of the future, and he brings an important message: Creon, you made a big stupid mistake! (It sounds fancier in Greek.) Suspecting the old man of treason, Creon becomes infuriated and refuses Tiresias wisdom. The old man becomes very cranky and predicts bad things for Creons near future. Creon Changes His Mind (Too Late) Finally scared, Creon rethinks his decisions. He dashes off to release Antigone. But hes too late. Antigone has already hanged herself. Haemon grieves beside her body. He attacks his father with a sword, misses completely, and then stabs himself, dying. Mrs. Creon (Eurydice) hears of her sons death and kills herself. (I hope you werent expecting a comedy.) By the time Creon returns to Thebes, the Chorus tells Creon the bad news. They explain that There is no escape from the doom we must endure. Creon realizes that his stubbornness has led to his familys ruin. The Chorus ends the play by offering a final message: The mighty words of the proud are paid in full with mighty blows of fate. The End!

UK extradition law Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

UK extradition law - Coursework Example Stevenson, (2006, p. 23  ) reveals ‘such nonexistence of international responsibility and the ambition of the right to require such criminals of other nations have caused a network of extradition agreements or treaties to develop’ and further points out that â€Å"the majority nations in the world have signed mutual extradition accords with numerous other nations†. 1 No nation in the world has an extradition treaty with all other nations and for instance, the United States of America has no extradition treaties with several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, People’s Republic of China, North Korea, Namibia, and Bahrain. According to Bassiouni (1996, p. 87) extradition is the delivery of a convicted individual. Or an accused by one country to another nation on whose territory he/she is alleged to have been convicted or committed of a crime. 2.0 Restrictions By concluding treaties or enacting laws or agreements, nations settle on the conditions under which they may perhaps deny or entertain extradition requests. Universal restrictions to extradition comprise of: According to Christopher (2001, p. 345) ‘the failure to execute double criminality is normally the act for which extradition is sought after’’ But â€Å"it must comprise of a crime which is punishable by some minimum penalty in equally the requested and requesting and parties†. 2 He points out to the political atmosphere of the alleged crime where the majority of the nations decline to extradite suspects of political crimes, there is the possibility of particular forms of punishment where various nations refuse extradition on grounds that the individual, if extradited, may possibly face torture or get capital punishment. A small number of these nations go as far as to cover all the punishments that they themselves may not direct. Christine (1998, p. 78) writes that the jurisdiction over a crime may be used to refuse any extradition and in particular, the reality that the individual in question is a country’s own citizen, makes that nation to have jurisdiction but he states that the citizenship of the individual in question where particular countries refuse to extradite their own citizens, and instead decide to hold trials for the individuals themselves. In some cases, such as that of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the suspect can not face any criminal charges brought against them. 3 Nathaniel (2007, p. 37) avers that most nations involve themselves to deny the extradition requirements if, in the government's opinion, the suspect is wanted for a political crime. He however avers that â€Å"many nations and regions, such as Mexico, Macao, Canada, Australia and most European nations, ‘may not consent to extradition if the death penalty might be imposed on the suspect unless they are guaranteed that the death sentence will not be carried out or passed†. 4 Rikhof (2009, pg. 324) gives an example, in ‘the case of one Soering v. United States, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that it could violate Article 3 of the European Convention of Human Rights if it were to extradite an individual to the U. S. from the U.K. in a capital case’. He however discloses that court ruled out that this â€Å"was because of the harsh circumstances on death row and the doubtful timescale in which the sentence could be executed and the parties to the European Conv

Organizational Behavior Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Organizational Behavior - Assignment Example In the business world emotions can lead to bad decisions. A leadership theory that describes the action of the leader, Ron Hunter, is the transformational leadership model. Transformational leadership occurs when leaders broaden and elevate follower’s interest and stir followers to look beyond their own interest for the good of others (Schermerhorn & Osborn & Hunt, p.301). During the climax event of the movie which occurred when Ron took over the ship in order to stop Frank Ramsey from launching a nuclear missile Ron displayed transformational leadership. Ron was able to gain the trust and confidence of the crew who risk their careers by following Ron. The crew realized that Ron’s orders were more logical due to the fact that without a confirmation to launch the Alabama could initiate world war III. There were two characters that displayed power in the film. The two people that displayed power in the film were Frank Ramsey, Commanding Officer, and the Executive Officer Ron Hunter. Frank Ramsey due to his position had legitimate power. Legitimate power or formal authority exits when the leader has the right to tell others what to do and the employees are obligated to comply with the directives (Clark). Ron Hunter was able to gain the trust of the crew by the utilization of rational persuasion. The key conflict of the film occurred when Frank Ramsey wanted to launch a nuclear missile to Russia without receiving the confirmation he needed. The communications went down and Frank assumed that the order to launch was imminent. Ron could not in his right mind accept that decision due to the fact that the repercussions of the action were horrendous if the Alabama made the wrong decision. The conflict that occurred could be considered dysfunctional. The conflict passed through the four stages of conflict which are antecedent conditions, perceived conflict, manifest conflict, and felt conflict. The consequences of the conflict

The article deals with the raise of a tariff on Chinese solar panels Essay Example for Free

The article deals with the raise of a tariff on Chinese solar panels Essay US commerce department brings heavy tariffs against Chinese solar panels Investigation finds China kept prices low with subsidies, but some in US warn tariff will slow adoption of solar energy The Obama administration imposed heavy tariffs on Chinese solar panels on Thursday, after finding that China is flooding the market with government subsidised products. The preliminary decision, that China had dumped solar products on the US for less than the cost of manufacture, will result in tariffs of between 31% and 250% on Chinese imports. It was seen on Thursday as a mixed blessing. US solar panel makers, who brought the original complaint, are expected to benefit. But the tariffs, by forcing up prices, are expected to slow the adoption of solar power more generally. There were also fears the move could lead to a broader US-Chinese trade war. In its decision, the US commerce department said it would impose tariffs of about 31% on about 60 Chinese solar panel exporters which participated in the investigation, including Wuxi Suntech and Trina Solar. Other manufacturers will face tariffs of just under 250%. The levies will be retroactive for 90 days. The tariffs were in addition to fees ranging from 2.9% to 4.73% imposed last March. Chinese government subsidies helped drive down the price of solar panels by 80% over the last five years, and by 40% in the last year alone. The price drops drove some US solar panel makers – such as Solyndra – to collapse. The seven US-based solar panel makers which brought the complaint said the ruling from the commerce department would help American companies hold their own against Chinese competitors. The solar panel makers were struggling against Chinese competition, and weakening demand in Europe. Todays decision is expected to have an impact on the US marketplace for Chinese manufacturers since it will begin to remove the advantage they have had as a result of their illegal trade practices, the Coalition for American Solar Panel Manufacturing said in a statement. The statement went on: However, it will not disrupt solar growth or solar installations in the United States. But that is precisely the fear of other industry analysts. The falling costs for solar panels also made solar power more competitive with other sources of energy. The US solar industry grew by 109% last year. Jigar Shah, who heads the Coalition for Affordable Solar Energy, told reporters Thursdays ruling will mean higher prices for consumers and will set back the adoption of solar. He also warned that China might retaliate against American manufacturers, sparking a trade war. Chinese officials have protested in the past at American accusations of unfair pricing and threatened to take America to the international trade court or WTO. We think its raising taxes 31% on solar cells, and we think its going to increase solar electricity prices in the US precisely at the moment that solar power is becoming competitive, Shah said. The article deals with the raise of a tariff on Chinese solar panels and their impacts on the market, as well as general tensions between the U.S. and China. A trade war is implied to be on the rise. The situation is, â€Å"that China had dumped solar products on the US for less than the cost of manufacture, will result in tariffs of between 31% and 250% on Chinese imports.†(line 5-6) . The industry in the U.S. is protected because of â€Å"’ the advantage they have had as a result of their illegal trade practices, (line 24-25) As shown in Diagram 1, price increases from P to P+t, The share of the market from domestic producers increases from Q1 to Q3, shown by revenue g to a+b+c+g+h and the imported share decreases from Q2Q3 to Q3Q4 shown by a revenue decrease from h+i+j+k to i+j. US Government revenue of this tariff is d+e and there is a dead-weight loss of welfare, as consumer surplus f is lost. World efficiency decreases by c, due to less efficient competitors producing a greater share of the Quantity supplied to the market, which is a misallocation of resources, hence undesirable. Winners of this are clearly the domestic producers, as their revenue increases hugely; the losers are Chinese solar panel producers, which have less share of the revenue. This can cause structural unemployment in China. But not only China loses out, also domestic consumers have less choice and the price rises to P+t, so that this might cause inflation. But this measure is effective to prevent the dumping, as â€Å"China is flooding the market with government subsidized† (line 4) Solar Panels. Also losers of the tariff could be U.S. energy producers, which are reliant on solar panels, so that this is a major threat to environmental sustainability, because efficiency of solar power is driven down, thus substitutes become more attractive and PED gets more elastic. As it were â€Å"the falling costs for solar panels† (line 28) made the solar panels more attractive to the industry and now the tariff leads to â€Å"higher prices for consumers† (line 32). Seeing the advantages for the U.S. producers, they appreciate the tariff, because the heavily subsidized Chinese solar panel economy otherwise would drive them out of business in the longrun, shown by Diagram 2. The Chinese producers gain market-share as S (domestic) shifts to S(domestic+subsidy), illustrated by the increase in area from a to a+b+e+f+g . The foreign market share falls from b+c+d to c+d. The occurring inefficiency through the subsidization is g, as this is the difference between S(world) and S(domestic) also here, there is structural unemployment in foreign supplier’s countries and consumers are affected by taxes, as they fund the subsidies. Therefore as a consequence the taxes might rise. This might lead to increased transport and therefore constraints to environmental sustainability as well. Seeing both governments â€Å"working† against each other with protectionist measurements is not only harmful to the world as an economy, but also to the domestic economies of both countries. Although they could simply shift their labour in the U.S., if the restriction of labour mobility is non-existent and therefore structural unemployment would only be a short run factor, both spend their resources on this trade war, which is simply inefficiency and a misallocation of resources, hence a big threat to sustainability, because this trade war could in several years not only be about solar panels but a whole range of products, which affects a great number of people, seeing that the U.S. and China are the two biggest economies. This trade war is further reinforced by China wanting â€Å"to take America to the international trade court or WTO† (line 35). So rather than producing what both countries have comparative advantages in, the U.S. commerce department tries to save a â€Å"sunset† industry, as the demand in Europe declines and Chinese competitors produce at prices lower than the manufacturing cost. Concluding, both governments work against with counter-veiling protectionist measures, which must be critically evaluated as they slow down the economy. Although the U.S. can save more market share for them by using the measures, a lot of efficiency is lost and the resources could be allocated into sectors with comparative advantage, hence a problem of economic structure, as inefficient producers should close down. More importantly it is a threat to environmental sustainability, as it hinders the adoption of â€Å"green energy† with higher prices,â€Å"precisely at the moment that solar power is becoming competitive,. (line 37-38).

Saccharin :: essays research papers

  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Saccharin is one of the most disputed sugar substitutes in the United States today. Since 1977, it has been regarded as potentially carcinogenic (â€Å"Saccharin†, 1999). The sweetness of saccharin compared to sugarcane is utterly amazing. When measured up to sugarcane, saccharin is 550 times as sweet in its pure state. Also, it is estimated to have a sweetening power of 375 times that of sugar (â€Å"Saccharin†, 2000)! This drug may be amazing, but some people say that it causes a dangerous disease, cancer.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In 1879, while developing new food preservatives a young Johns Hopkins chemistry research assistant accidentally discovered that one of the organic compounds he was testing was intensely sweet. He named it â€Å"saccharum†, the Greek word for sugar. He further learned that it passed through the body unchanged and was thus a safe artificial sweetener for diabetics (Anderson, 1995). Similar sugar substitutes are used today.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Saccharin, which is also known as ortho-sulpho benzimide, is a white crystalline solid derived form coal tar. Them chemical formula is known as C6H4CONHSO2 (â€Å"Saccharin†, 1999). In 1977, saccharin was banned in Canada, but it has been kept on the market in the United States (â€Å"Saccharin†, 2000). It may be legal in the United States, but warning labels are necessary on saccharin-containing foods (â€Å"Saccharin†, 2000). In 1997, a group of scientists urged the federal agency to keep the artificial on its list of cancer-causing agents (CSPI, 1997). The National Toxicology Program, NTP, said that declaring saccharin sage would, â€Å"result in greater exposure to this probable carcinogen in tens of millions of people†¦ If saccharin is even a weak carcinogen, this unnecessary additive would pose an intolerable risk to the public,† (CSPI, 1997). They felt that even if it is weak, it still is a carcinogen. Samuel Epstein, a professor of environmental medicine at Illinois Medical Center in Chicago said, â€Å"In light of the many animal and human studies clearly demonstrating that saccharin is a carcinogenic, it is astonishing that the NTP is even considering delisting saccharin, â€Å" (CSPI, 1997). Many other scientist still today believe and have proven that saccharin is a cancer causing agent (at high doses in lab animals), but still people use it day in and day out at restaurants and their homes. Still many people are trying to have it removed from the list of carcinogens. Saccharin was also test on many laboratory animals, especially lab rats. They concluded that a high dietary dose of sodium saccharin causes urinary bladder tumors in rats (Bell, 1998).

Absenteeism 2

Absenteeism is a serious workplace problem and an expensive occurrence for both employers and employees seemingly unpredictable in nature. A satisfactory level of attendance by employees at work is necessary to allow the achievement of objectives and targets by a department. Employee Absenteeism is the absence of an employee from work. It is a major problem faced by almost all employers of today. Employees are absent from work and thus the work suffers. Employee’s presence at workplace during the scheduled time is highly essential for the smooth running of the production process in particular and the organization in general. Despite the significance of their presence, employees sometime fail to report at the work place during the scheduled time, which is known as â€Å"Absenteeism†. Labour Bureau, Simla defined the term ‘absenteeism’ as â€Å"the failure of a worker to report for work when he is scheduled to work. † Labour Bureau also states that â€Å"absenteeism is the total man-shifts lost because of absence as a percentage of the total number of man-shifts scheduled to work. According to Webster’s Dictionary, â€Å"Absenteeism is the practice or habit of being an ‘absence’ and an absentee is one who habitually stays away. † Types of Absenteeism: Absenteeism is of four types viz: 1) Authorized Absenteeism, 2) Unauthorized Absenteeism, 3) Willful Absenteeism and 4) caus ed by circumstances beyond one’s control. 1) Authorized Absenteeism: If an employee absent himself from work by taking permission from his superior and applying for leave, such absenteeism is called authorized absenteeism. ) Unauthorized Absenteeism: if an employee absent himself from work without informing or taking permission and without applying for leave, such absenteeism is called unauthorized absenteeism. 3) Willful Absenteeism: If an employee absents himself from duty willfully, such absenteeism is called willful absenteeism. 4) Absenteeism caused by Circumstances beyond One’s Control: If an employee absents himself from duty owing to the circumstances beyond his control like involvement in accidents or sudden sickness, such absenteeism is called absenteeism caused by circumstances beyond one’s control. Features of Absenteeism: Research studies undertaken by different authors reveal the following features of absenteeism: * The rate of absenteeism is the lowest on pay day, it increases considerably on the days following the payment of wages and bonus. * Absenteeism is generally high among workers below 15 years of age and those above 40. The younger employees are not regular and punctual, presumably because of the employment of a large number of newcomers among the younger age groups. While the older people are not able to withstand the strenuous nature of the work. The rate of absenteeism varies from department to department within a unit. As the size of the group increases, the rate of absenteeism goes up. This difference in the rate of absenteeism is believed to be due to the peculiar style and practices of management, the composition of the labor force and the culture of the organization. * The percentage of absenteeism is generally higher in the day shifts * The percentage of ab senteeism is much higher in coal and mining industries than in organized industries. * Absenteeism in India is seasonal in character It is the highest during March-April-May, when a land has to be prepared for monsoon saving, and also in the harvest season, when the rate goes as high as 40 percent Causes Of Absenteeism: The following are the general causes of absenteeism 1) Maladjustment with the Working Conditions: If the working conditions of the company are poor, the workers cannot adjust themselves with the company’s working conditions. Then they prefer to stay away from the company. 2) Social and Religious Ceremonies: Social and religious functions divert the worker’s attention from the work. ) Unsatisfactory Housing conditions at the workplace. 4) Industrial Fatigue: The industrial fatigue compels workers to remain outside the work place. 5) Unhealthy Working Conditions: The poor and intolerable working condition in the factories irritates the workers. Excess hea t, noise, either too much or too low lightening, poor ventilation, dust, smoke etc. cause poor health of the workers. These factors cause the workers to be absent. 6) Poor Welfare Facilities: Though a number of legislation concerning welfare facilities are enacted, many organization fail to provide welfare facilities. This is either due to the poor financial position of the companies or due to the exploitative attitude of the employer. The poor welfare facilities include poor sanitation, washing, bathing, first-aid appliances, ambulance, rest rooms, drinking water, canteen, shelter, creches etc. the dissatisfied workers with these facilities prefer to be away from the work place. 7) Alcoholism: Workers mostly prefer to spend money on the consumption of liquor and enjoyment after getting the wages. Therefore the rate of absenteeism is more during the first week of every month. ) Indebtness: The low level wages and unplanned expenditure of the workers force them to borrow heavily. The research studies indicate that workers borrow more than 10 times of their net pay. Consequently, workers fail to repay the money. Then they try to escape from the place in order to avoid the moneylenders. This leads to absenteeism. 9) Maladjustments with the job demands: The fast changing technology demands higher leve l skills from the workers. Some workers fail to meet these demands due to their low level education and/or absence of training. 0) Unsound Personnel Policies: The improper and unrealistic personnel policies result in employee dissatisfaction. The dissatisfied employee in turn prefers to be away from the work. 11) Inadequate Leave Facilities: The inadequate leave facilities provided by the employer forces him to depend on E. S. I. leave which allows the workers to be away from the work for 56 days in a year on half pay. 12) Low level of Wages: Wages in some organizations are very poor and they are quite inadequate to meet the basic needs of the employees. Therefore, employees go for other employment during their busy season and earn more money. Further, some employees take up part time jobs. Thus the employees resort to moonlighting and absent themselves from work. The Cost to Co. Turnover As most HR managers know, the cost of turnover adds hundreds of thousands of dollars to a company's expenses. While it is difficult to fully calculate the cost of turnover (including hiring costs, training costs, productivity loss), industry experts often quote 25% of the average employee salary as a conservative estimate. For example, if the average salary is $20,000/yr the cost of one employee turnover is $5,000. If you have 30 employees terminating per month, the cost to the organization equals $150,000/month. Mulitiply that by 12 months and you have $1,800,000 in added annual expense. Loss of Company Knowledge When an employee leaves, they take with them valuable knowledge about your company, your customers, current projects and past history (sometimes to competitors). Often much time and money has been spent on the employee in expectation of a future return. When the employee leaves, the investment is not realized. Disruption of Customer Service Customers and clients do business with a company in part because of the people. Relationships are developed that encourage continued patronage of the business. When an employee leaves, the relationships that employee built for the company are severed, which could lead to potential customer loss. Turnover spirals into more turnover When an employee terminates, the effect is felt throughout the organization. Coworkers are often required to pick up the slack. The unspoken negativity often intensifies for the remaining staff.
